A Tough Day at Coors Field

Today's game against the Red Sox was a tough one for us Rockies fans 😞. Despite our hopes for an exciting matchup, the Red Sox came out swinging, and we struggled to find our rhythm both at the plate and on the mound. The final score, 6-0, doesn't do justice to the effort our boys put in, but let's break down what happened inning by inning.

Early Struggles

The game got off to a rocky start right from the top of the 1st inning when Jarren Duran was hit by a pitch. Though Rob Refsnyder flied out and Connor Wong struck out, the danger wasn't over. Rafael Devers doubled to center, driving in Duran for Boston’s first run. Then, Tyler O'Neill added salt to the wound with a massive 437-foot homer, putting the Red Sox up 3-0. Our guys couldn't respond; despite a single by Charlie Blackmon, we couldn't capitalize.

More Runs for Boston

The Red Sox extended their lead in the 2nd inning. Singles and a stolen base put runners in scoring position, and Refsnyder doubled to bring in two more runs. By the end of the 2nd inning, it was 5-0, and we were still looking for our first run.

O'Neill Homers Again

The top of the 3rd saw another bomb from Tyler O'Neill, this time a 465-foot homer to left field. It was his second home run of the game, and it was painful to watch 😤. Despite the struggles, a pitching change to bring in Molina helped limit further damage for the rest of the inning.

Limited Chances

Sadly, our bats stayed mostly quiet throughout the remaining innings. Brendan Rodgers managed a single in the 4th, and Elias Díaz doubled at the start of the 5th. Yet, each time we seemed to be gaining momentum, we couldn’t push runners home.

Missed Opportunities

In the bottom of the 6th, back-to-back singles by Blackmon and Ezequiel Tovar gave us a glimmer of hope, but yet another double play stifled any rally attempts. Michael Toglia doubled in the 8th, but a strikeout by Aaron Schunk, Charlie Blackmon, and Tovar once again left us empty-handed 😢.

Final Nails in the Coffin

By the 9th inning, it seemed we were out of gas. Rodgers and Bryant grounded out, and a hard-hit ball by Doyle went straight to third, bringing the game to a somber close.

Conclusion

Despite a disappointing outcome, there were still some positives to take away. Blackmon and Tovar managed to get on base a few times, and our fielding was solid overall. Hopefully, the team can regroup and come back stronger in the next game. It’s a long season, and there are plenty of opportunities ahead for our Rockies! 🏞️⚾
