Tough Loss for the Cubs 😔

Hey Cubs fans, today we had a close call out on the West Coast but ultimately came up short against the Giants with a final score of 4-3. Despite a valiant effort, it just wasn't enough to seal the deal. Let's dive into how things went down.

Slow Start but an Early Lead! 💪

Top of the 2nd inning saw some sparks as Ian Happ drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. That opened the door for Christopher Morel who also walked, setting the stage for Pete Crow-Armstrong. Crow-Armstrong singled to right, bringing Happ home and putting us up 1-0! Unfortunately, Miguel Amaya flied out to center, and we couldn't extend the lead further.

Home Runs Bit Us Back 😖

The bottom of the 2nd inning was tough. Michael Conforto hit a two-run homer and was immediately followed by a solo shot from David Villar, giving the Giants a 3-1 lead. A momentary lapse in our defense just hurt!

Clawing Back! 🐻‍❄️

In the 4th inning, Miguel Amaya came through again with a single to center that allowed Pete Crow-Armstrong to score, closing the gap to 3-2. Each run felt like a fight, but our Cubs showed resilience!

Then in the Top of the 5th, Seiya Suzuki sent a bomb to center field, tying the game at 3-3 with a 431-foot homer! 🎆

Late-Inning Heartbreak 💔

The bottom of the 5th, though, saw the Giants get back on top with a 375-foot homer from Luis Matos. That put them up 4-3, and sadly it was a lead we couldn't overcome despite some late efforts.

In the top of the 9th inning, Dansby Swanson singled to left to give us hope. After Miles Mastrobuoni fouled out to left, Swanson advanced to second on a pickoff error. With the tying run in scoring position, Nico Hoerner grounded out to shortstop, ending the rally and the game.

Final Thoughts 🧢

It was a game with plenty of fight but just a few missteps that cost us. Let's tip our hat to Seiya Suzuki for that no-doubt home run and to Pete Crow-Armstrong for his RBI and defensive plays.

Let's keep our heads up high, Cubs Nation. On to the next one! Go Cubs Go! 💙❤️
