Tough Loss Against the Cubs
Hey, Redbirds fans. It was a bit of a rough outing for us tonight as we fell to the Cubs 5-1. Our bats just couldn't get hot enough to turn things around.Early Struggles in Hitting
In the first inning, both teams struggled to get anything going. Willson Contreras gave us hope with a single, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. Masyn Winn and Alec Burleson couldn't find their rhythm early on.Defensive Mishaps
Our defense was put to the test in the top of the third, as back-to-back singles from the Cubs gave them momentum. Nico Hoerner grounded out but allowed Miles Mastrobuoni to score, putting them up 1-0. In the fourth, Dansby Swanson extended the Cubs' lead after a single to left brought Ian Happ home.Offensive Drought
We had some chances to make an impact. In the bottom of the third, Lars Nootbaar got a single, but others couldn't bring him around. We seemed to catch some momentum with Brendan Donovan walking in the fifth, but that inning ended with a double play.Seventh Inning Slip
The Cubs managed another run in the seventh with a sac fly by Hoerner, scoring Mastrobuoni. We made some pitching changes, but the Cubs capitalized, especially with David Bote's two-run double in the eighth, making it a tough 5-0.Late Effort Falls Short
We finally broke our scoreless streak in the ninth with Paul Goldschmidt driving in Masyn Winn. However, Cubs' closer locked us down, leaving the bases loaded as Nolan Arenado and Lars Nootbaar couldn't bring any more runs in.Despite this loss, let's keep our spirits up! Go Cardinals!
