A Tough Loss for the Cardinals

Hey Cardinals fans! 😢 It was a hard-fought game, but unfortunately, we came up short today against the Cubs with an 8-3 defeat. Let's dive into the details and recap the game's key moments.

Early Lead from Pagés

The game started off solid after a scoreless first inning. In the bottom of the second inning, Brendan Donovan and Nolan Arenado set the stage with singles, followed by a clutch two-run single by Pedro Pagés. That gave us an early 2-0 lead! 🎉

Cubs Strike Back

The Cubs quickly responded in the top of the third inning. After Pete Crow-Armstrong homered to make it 2-1, Nico Hoerner doubled and later scored on a single by Seiya Suzuki, tying the game at 2-2.

Back-to-Back Homers

Our pitching faltered in the top of the fifth inning as Tomas Nido and Pete Crow-Armstrong hit back-to-back homers, putting the Cubs ahead 4-2. Adding insult to injury, Christopher Morel hit a two-run homer in the sixth, widening the gap to 6-2.

Burleson's Solo Homer

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Alec Burleson gave us some hope with a solo home run to right, trimming the Cubs' lead to 6-3. 💪

Happ and Morel Seal the Game

The Cubs extended their lead in the eighth inning with solo home runs by Ian Happ and Christopher Morel again, making it 8-3 and putting the game out of reach for us.

Missed Opportunities

We had some opportunities but couldn't capitalize. In the final inning, Brendan Donovan walked, and Nolan Arenado singled, but we couldn't push any more runs across the plate – Lars Nootbaar, Nolan Gorman, and pinch-hitter Willson Contreras were unable to drive them in.

Final Thoughts

Today just wasn't our day, but let's keep our heads up, Cardinals fans! We saw some solid at-bats and promising moments. We'll shake this off and come back stronger next game! 💪

Go Cards! 🐦⚾
