Rough Start for the Reds Offense
The Reds couldn't quite find their rhythm right from the start. Despite Jeimer Candelario singling to left in the first inning, there was no follow-up to keep the momentum. TJ Friedl, Elly De La Cruz, and Spencer Steer all had early outs, and the Reds left the first inning scoreless.
Pitcher's Duel Early On
The first few innings looked like a classic pitcher’s duel, with both teams struggling to bring runners home. Our defense did a solid job with Tyler Stephenson behind the plate, but our offense couldn't break through. The Brewers also kept us at bay, turning potential hits into outs.
Momentum Shift in the 5th Inning
The bottom of the 5th was a game-changer. Joey Ortiz’s homer to left-center brought in Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang, suddenly putting the Brewers ahead 3-0. This was a tough blow, especially given how strong our pitching was up until that point.
Reds Struggle to Mount a Comeback
In the remaining innings, our boys had some chances but couldn’t capitalize. Friedl walked and advanced with stolen bases, but the hits just didn't follow. A few strikeouts and an unfortunate double play in the 5th against Nick Martini really stunted our efforts.
Late-Inning Efforts Fall Short
The Reds rallied a bit in the 9th inning when De La Cruz walked and stole second, setting up Candelario's double to bring him home. However, the spark wasn’t quite enough, as Steer, Stephenson, and Stuart Fairchild couldn't bring in any more runs, leaving us with a 3-1 loss. A valiant effort, but just not our night.Final Thoughts
A tough game for our Reds. Bright spots included Candelario's offensive efforts and a solid defensive showing early on. We hope the bats wake up for the next game and bring in some more runs. Let's keep our heads up and look forward to the next match!
