Heartbreaker in Pittsburgh: Reds Fall to Pirates 4-3
Tough one to swallow, Reds fans
. We dropped a close one to the Pirates, 4-3, in a game that had plenty of twists and turns.Early Struggles at Bat
The game kicked off with a rough start for our Reds. Jonathan India got hit by a pitch (ouch), but we couldn't capitalize. Elly De La Cruz and Tyler Stephenson also got on base, but TJ Friedl and Spencer Steer couldn’t bring them home, leaving us scoreless.Pirates Take Early Lead
The Pirates took advantage in the bottom of the 1st. An error by Spencer Steer allowed Isiah Kiner-Falefa to get to second. A couple of hits later, they scored the first run. We were down early, but it’s a long game, right?Struggling to Find Offense
The next few innings saw more of the same—our bats just couldn't find their rhythm. Tyler Stephenson had a nice double in the 3rd, but we couldn’t drive him in. The Pirates added another run in the bottom of the 3rd to make it 2-0.Rally in the 7th
Finally, the 7th inning brought a spark! Noelvi Marte, Jonathan India, and Elly De La Cruz came through with key hits. Quick succession of smart plays and a little help from a Pirates error allowed us to score three times, flipping the script and giving us a 3-2 lead.
Closing Time Woes
Entering the 9th inning with a 3-2 lead, we were feeling optimistic. But the Pirates had other plans. Emmanuel Pagán did his best, but after a hit-by-pitch put Bryan De La Cruz on base, Yasmani Grandal hammered a two-run homer to right center, sealing the game for the Pirates.
