The Rockies couldn't get much going in the top of the 1st, despite efforts from Charlie Blackmon, Ezequiel Tovar, and Ryan McMahon, who each tried to spark some early offense. On the flip side, our pitchers kept the Cardinals at bay, turning the first few innings into a strategic battle for dominance.Rockies Break Through
The tension finally broke in the top of the 3rd when Jake Cave walked, and an exciting sequence of plays including a single by Michael Toglia and a fielder's choice by Blackmon brought Cave home, putting the Rockies up 1-0. By the 5th inning, the Rockies started to find some momentum. A combination of strategic baserunning and a wild pitch by the Cardinals' Gray allowed Brenton Doyle and Cave to score, expanding our lead to 3-0. Rockies pitchers, including Vodnik, Beeks, and finally Kinley, worked hard to preserve our slim lead, executing crucial strikeouts and plays.
