Tough Day for the Royals in the Bronx
The Kansas City Royals took on the New York Yankees and, unfortunately, came up short with a final score of 4-10. Despite the loss, there were a few bright spots for the Royals worth noting. Let's break down the game inning by inning.Strong Start but Missed Opportunities
The Royals got off to an early lead in the top of the 1st inning thanks to a couple of errors by the Yankees. Tommy Pham reached first on a throwing error by Jazz Chisholm Jr., and a series of wild plays got him all the way to third. Salvador Perez then drove him home with a single. The Royals had two runners on with just one out but couldn’t capitalize further. Despite Robbie Grossman drawing a walk, both Hunter Renfroe and Yuli Gurriel struck out, leaving the score at 1-0.Extending the Lead
The Royals extended their lead in the top of the 3rd inning when Salvador Perez hit a solo homer to left center, making it 2-0. The Yankees got a hit and a walk in the bottom of the inning, but Brady Singer managed to get out of the jam, keeping the Yankees off the board.Yankees Strike Back
The bottom of the 4th inning was rough. The Yankees capitalized on a throwing error by Salvador Perez, which allowed Jasson Dominguez to score. Then Alex Verdugo hit a two-run homer, putting the Yankees up 3-2. Despite this setback, the Royals tied the game in the top of the 5th inning, thanks to a single by Salvador Perez, who brought in Bobby Witt Jr..Renfroe's Homer Gives Royals Hope
In the top of the 6th inning, Hunter Renfroe hit a solo homer, giving the Royals a 4-3 lead! We were back on top and it felt like momentum could be shifting in our favor.Yankees Surge in the Late Innings
Things fell apart in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Yankees loaded the bases, and Austin Wells hit a three-run homer, turning the game around and putting the Yankees up 7-4. Chisholm Jr. walked, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch, although we managed to avoid further damage by getting Anthony Rizzo out.Yankees Pull Away
In the bottom of the 8th, the Yankees added three more runs, making it 10-4. Gleyber Torres singled to drive home Oswaldo Cabrera, and Verdugo later scored on a double play grounder. Austin Wells added one more insurance run with an RBI double.Final Attempts
We couldn’t muster a comeback in the 9th inning. Michael Massey struck out, Kyle Isbel grounded out, and Tommy Pham flied out to right.Overall, it was a tough game for our Royals
