Tough Start for the Buccos

Hey Fam, the Pirates faced a rough outing today against the Kansas City Royals. Our boys couldn't quite recover from a rocky 2nd inning where the Royals managed to put up a whopping 6 runs. It all started with an unfortunate throwing error by our pitcher, after which the floodgates opened. A series of hits, including a homer by Salvador Perez, left us trailing early, 6-0. 😞

Trying to Get the Bats Going

In the bottom of the 1st and 2nd innings, our team couldn't get much going offensively. Although Bryan Reynolds managed a double in the 1st, consecutive strikeouts left him stranded. We just couldn't catch a break, and the Royals' pitchers kept mowing down our lineup. It was tough to watch as we just couldn't get the bats going, with strikeouts dominating the stat sheet. 😤

Brief Rays of Hope

Things slightly improved in the 6th inning with Oneil Cruz doubled and Joey Bart brought him home with a single, giving us our first run. But any momentum was short-lived, and the Royals added another run in the 8th with a homer from Adam Frazier. It was a tough pill to swallow, seeing the score stretch to 8-1.

A Late Rally? Almost...

Our Buccos showed some fight in the bottom of the 9th inning. Bryan De La Cruz and Jared Triolo got on base, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa loaded the bases with a single. Bryan Reynolds hit a sacrifice fly to bring in a run, and Oneil Cruz singled to bring in another, cutting the lead to 8-3. But alas, Andrew McCutchen flied out to end the game. It was a reminder of the tough road we'll have ahead to get back into the win column. 😓

Final Thoughts

While it wasn't the result we were hoping for, there were brief moments that showed promise. We can't win them all, but let's keep our heads up and look forward to the next game. Let's go Bucs! 🏴‍☠️⚾
