Tough Loss for the Mariners
Hey Mariners fans, tonight's game was quite the nail-biter! We faced off against the Angels but came up just short with a final score of 2-1. Let's dive into the highlights and key moments from tonight's showdown.
️Early Lead Thanks to Haniger
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Mitch Haniger gave us something to cheer about with a solo homer to center field, putting us up 1-0!
His powerful swing sent the ball flying 405 feet, and for a while, it looked like that one run might be all we needed.Solid Defense and Pitching
Our pitchers were on point tonight. We saw excellent work from the mound, especially in the early innings. Despite a few singles and walks, our defense held the Angels scoreless through seven innings. Big shoutout to Cal Raleigh for catching Mickey Moniak stealing in the 2nd inning. Great teamwork out there!
Missed Opportunities
Unfortunately, we missed a few golden opportunities to extend our lead. In the bottom of the 4th, with runners on first and third and no outs, Tyler Locklear grounded into a double play, and we couldn’t convert. Even in the bottom of the 6th, we had Jorge Polanco on first, but Haniger grounded into another double play. Just couldn’t catch a break!
The 8th Inning Turnaround
It was the top of the 8th inning that changed the game. Nolan Schanuel singled to left, followed by Willie Calhoun's clutch hit to bring him home, tying the game at 1-1. Then Brandon Drury stepped up with a single to center, allowing Kevin Pillar to score on a balk call, and the Angels took a 2-1 lead. Ouch!
Final Push Falls Short
We had one last chance in the bottom of the 9th, but it wasn't meant to be. Jason Vosler, Tyler Locklear, and Luke Raley tried their best but couldn't find a way past the Angels' closer Estévez.Conclusion
