Rocky Start for Marlins
The game started off rough for the Marlins, with Charlie Blackmon and Ezequiel Tovar each hitting homers in the first inning. It didn't get much better as Brendan Rodgers and Michael Toglia added singles, Jake Cave doubled, and Jacob Stallings got an infield single that brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Rockies.
Inching Back
The Marlins started to fight back in the third inning as Jesus Sanchez doubled to score Connor Norby. In the fourth, Kyle Stowers homered to left center, putting another run on the board. Another surge came in the 6th inning with Stowers tripling and later scoring on Vidal Brujan's groundout followed by a triple from Griffin Conine and a sacrifice fly by Ali Sanchez. The scoreboard read 6-4, but the game was far from over.
Rockies Extend Their Lead
In a disappointing 6th inning for Marlins fans, Sam Hilliard homered and Jordan Beck doubled, eventually scoring on Tovar's sacrifice fly. That extended the Rockies' lead to 8-4.
Epic 9th Inning Comeback
But our Marlins didn't give up! In the top of the 9th, Conine started the rally with a double. David Hensley, pinch-hitting for Ali Sanchez, singled. Norby walked to load the bases. Then, Jake Burger's double scored Conine and Hensley. Derek Hill ran for Burger, and Jesus Sanchez hit a clutch homer to right-center, scoring three runs and pushing the Marlins ahead, 9-8!
Sealing the Victory
The bottom of the 9th was nerve-wracking! Derek Hill took over as designated hitter, Nick Fortes caught, and Cristian Pache covered center field. Caleb Faucher came in to close. He struck out the Rockies' last three batters—Blackmon, Tovar, and McMahon—securing an incredible 9-8 win for the Marlins!
What a Game!
This game was a roller coaster of emotions, but the Marlins showed their heart and made an epic comeback to win it all! Let's keep this momentum going, Fish Nation!
