Tough Start for the Cubs
Well, fellow Cubs fans, last night's game against the Mets was a rough one. The Mets started strong with a 3-run homer by J.D. Martinez in the first inning, which set the tone for the rest of the game. Despite a promising start with Nico Hoerner walking and a chaotic fielder's choice that loaded the bases, we only managed to squeeze one run across in the first inning, thanks to Christopher Morel's RBI groundout. The top of the 2nd inning really got away from us. Francisco Alvarez and Brandon Nimmo both hit homers, piling on even more pressure. By the middle of the inning, we were down 6-1. Our offense was unable to respond, with Patrick Wisdom, Dansby Swanson, and David Bote all striking out in quick succession. Cubs 1-6 Mets.Struggles Continue
The Mets kept hitting, and we kept struggling. The top of the 3rd saw another run scored by the Mets, making it 7-1. Though we had Seiya Suzuki get hit by pitch and Cody Bellinger hitting a double, we couldn't bring any runners home. Things went from bad to worse in the 4th as the Mets put up 4 more runs, making it an 11-1 game. Just couldn't find our rhythm today.Late Innings – No Comeback in Sight
Our pitching staff finally settled in and managed to keep the Mets from scoring beyond the 4th inning. However, our bats remained cold. We saw some efforts from Miguel Amaya who singled in the 5th and Morel hitting a ground rule double in the 8th, but we just couldn't turn those opportunities into runs.Final Moments
In the 9th inning, Tomás Nido came in to pinch-hit but struck out swinging, capping off a frustrating night at Wrigley. Final Score: Cubs 1, Mets 11.Looking Forward
