Missed Opportunities in a Tough Loss to the Phillies

Hey Mets fans, what a rollercoaster of a game we had tonight against the Phillies. We started out strong, but unfortunately, couldn't hold on and ended up losing 6-4. 😔 Let's dive into the action.

Hot Start for the Mets

We got off to a promising start in the 1st inning. Jose Iglesias singled to left, then Pete Alonso, J.D. Martinez, and Starling Marte all walked, bringing Iglesias home for the early lead. Francisco Alvarez ended the inning with a fly out, but we were up 1-0. Our pitcher was dealing as he struck out the side in the bottom of the 1st. 💪

Building Momentum in the 3rd Inning

Mark Vientos started the 3rd inning with a double, followed by a single from Brandon Nimmo that pushed Vientos to third. Fortunately, a fielding error allowed Vientos to score and set the stage for Starling Marte to triple and bring home both Nimmo and Alonso. We were up 4-0 and it felt like we had this in the bag!

Phillies Begin Their Comeback

The momentum shifted in the 4th inning when Bryce Harper homered to left center. Fast forward to the 6th, Harper strikes again, this time a two-run homer tightening our lead to 4-3. The 7th inning saw some shaky pitching from our side, allowing the Phillies to squeeze out two more runs. 😥

Final Nail in the 8th Inning

Despite Luisangel Acuña's efforts with a single in the 9th and advancing on a wild pitch, we couldn't capitalize. Jeff Hoffman managed to hold us off, and the Phillies secured another insurance run in the 8th bringing the final score to 6-4.

Bright Spots and What’s Next

While it’s a tough loss, there were some silver linings. Starling Marte was impressive with that critical triple. We had a solid start but need to figure out how to maintain that momentum. Let's stay positive and look forward to the next game. Let's Go Mets! 🏟️💙🧡

Thanks for reading, and as always, share your thoughts about the game!
