Heartbreaker at Busch Stadium

Ah, fellow Cardinals fans, it was a nail-biter last night against the Mets, but unfortunately, our Birds fell just a tad short in a 4-3 loss. Let's dive into the key moments, shall we? 🤨

Slow Start for the Cards

The game kicked off with the Mets quickly putting a run on the board in the 1st, courtesy of a double by DJ Stewart, sending Francisco Lindor home. Our Cardinals struggled to answer back in the early innings, with the score remaining 0-1 until the 5th. Despite some solid attempts, including a double by Brendan Donovan in the 2nd, the Cardinals couldn't quite crack the code to bring our boys home.

Mets Extend Their Lead

The 5th inning saw the Mets stretch their lead to 3-0, with Brandon Nimmo capitalizing on a fielding error by Lars Nootbaar and later scoring, alongside another run brought in by Lindor's sac fly. It was looking a bit grim for our Cards at this point. 😟

Cardinals’ Thrilling Comeback Attempt

But then came the bottom of the 6th, and oh boy, did our Cardinals show some fight! Willson Contreras doubled to bring Jose Fermin in, followed by Ivan Herrera knocking a double to center, which scored both Paul Goldschmidt and Contreras, tying the game at 3-3. The energy was electric, and for a moment, it felt like the momentum was all ours!

Nimmo's Home Run and a Tight Finish

Alas, the tie didn't last long. In the top of the 7th, Brandon Nimmo hit a solo homer that just eked out past the right field, putting the Mets ahead 4-3. The Cardinals had a couple of chances to even the score or take the lead in the remaining innings, notably with a double by Nootbaar in the 7th, but we just couldn't make the magic happen against the Mets' bullpen.

Final Inning Frustrations

Heading into the 9th, tension was high. Alec Burleson, coming in to pinch hit for Herrera, alongside Donovan and Masyn Winn, were set down in order, sealing the game for the Mets with a final score of 4-3. A tough loss, but our Cardinals showed grit and determination.

Looking Ahead

It's always tough to swallow a close loss like this one, especially against a team like the Mets. There were some fantastic moments of hustle and hope, particularly in that 6th inning rally. Shoutout to Contreras and Herrera for their clutch hits! The Cardinals are showing they have the fight in them; it's just about finding that extra edge.

Let's keep our heads up, Cardinal Nation. On to the next game, with all the heart and fight we know our team is capable of! ❤️⚾
