Phillies vs. Yankees: Heartbreaking Extra-Innings Loss

Hey Phillies fans, 😔

We had a rollercoaster of a game against the Yankees that ended in a heart-wrenching 7-6 loss in 12 innings. It was a battle from start to finish, and it’s tough to see our boys come up just short. Let's dive into the detailed play-by-play.

Early Momentum for the Phillies

The Yankees took an early lead in the 1st with Alex Verdugo scoring on a fielder's choice. But we quickly answered back when Kyle Schwarber walked and Alec Bohm doubled to bring him home, tying the game 1-1 by the end of the 1st inning.

We carried that momentum into the 2nd inning with J.T. Realmuto singling, Bryson Stott walking, and Austin Hays smacking a 351-foot homer, putting us ahead 4-1.

Mid-Game Stalemate

The game saw a bit of a stalemate with solid defensive plays, and it wasn't until the 6th inning that Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered to close the gap to 4-2. Unfortunately, we couldn’t extend our lead in our following at-bats.

Yankees Take the Lead

The 7th inning was tough. Chisholm Jr. hit another homer—this time a three-run shot—to put the Yankees ahead 5-4. Our bullpen struggled to contain their lineup, and it looked like the game might slip away.

Fighting Back in the 9th

Down to our last outs in the 9th, Realmuto reached on an infield single. Johan Rojas ran for Castellanos and eventually scored on a wild pitch by Holmes, tying the game at 5-5! The Yankees couldn't score in the top of the 10th, giving us a golden opportunity.

Extra-Inning Drama

The 10th and 11th innings were tense. Despite getting runners on base, we couldn't capitalize. The Yankees scored a run in the top of the 12th, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Verdugo, putting them up 7-6.

With our backs against the wall, Realmuto and Weston Wilson couldn’t bring us back after Marsh flied out. Wilson struck out swinging, ending our comeback hopes 💔.

Looking Ahead

We had some standout moments: Austin Hays’ homer, Realmuto’s clutch hits, and our bullpen's effort in keeping us in the game.

This was a tough loss, but let’s keep our heads up and look forward to bouncing back in the next game. Go Phillies! 🔔

Overall, it was an intense game, and despite the loss, the fight shown by our team was impressive. Stay strong, Phillies fans. Better days are coming! 🦅
