Rough Day at Citizens Bank Park

The Phillies had a tough game against the Athletics, falling 6-2. It was a day filled with missed opportunities and a couple of fielding errors that cost us dearly. Let's break down what happened inning by inning.

Solid Start, But Squandered Chances

The top of the first inning saw an early fielding error by Trea Turner, but Kyle Schwarber managed to walk in the bottom of the inning. However, Alec Bohm lined into a double play, ending any chance of an early lead.

Pache Puts Phillies on the Board

In the bottom of the second inning, Cristian Pache hit a double to right, scoring Weston Wilson and giving us an early 1-0 lead. But in the top of the third, things quickly turned sour. The Athletics managed to score three runs, highlighted by RBI singles from Andujar and Rooker.

Brief Rally in the 3rd

Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm started the bottom of the 3rd inning strong, with Harper scoring off a Edmundo Sosa single. Unfortunately, that was all for that inning, and we trailed 3-2.

Athletics Pull Away

The Athletics extended their lead in the 5th and 8th innings. First, Langeliers singled to left, scoring Schuemann, bringing the score to 4-2. In the 8th inning, a two-run homer from Butler sealed the deal for Oakland, making it 6-2.

Offense Stalls

The Phillies had several chances to score in the latter half of the game but couldn’t capitalize. Strikeouts and double plays killed any momentum we had. The 9th inning offered a last glimmer of hope, but Brandon Marsh struck out swinging to end the game, leaving Weston Wilson stranded at second.

Bitter End

This was a rough one, Phils fans 😔. It's clear we have some areas to address, particularly our fielding and hitting with runners in scoring position. Let's root for a better outing in the next game! 💪⚾

Final Score: Phillies 2, Athletics 6
