Tough Loss for the Royals Against the Phillies
Well, Royals fans, it wasn't our night.
The Phillies proved too much for us today, handing us an 11-2 defeat. Let's break it down.Quiet Start and Missed Opportunities
The game began quietly, with both teams struggling to score in the first two innings. Despite a promising double to right by Vinnie Pasquantino, we couldn’t capitalize in the 1st inning. Unfortunately, the offense couldn't find its rhythm early on.Phillies Break Through in the 3rd and 5th Innings
In the top of the 3rd, the Phillies got on the board with a single from Turner, scoring Schwarber. The Phillies added another in the top of the 5th, with Harper doubling to center, bringing Turner home to make it 2-0.But there was hope in the bottom of the 5th! Michael Massey doubled to center, and Freddy Fermin followed with a single to right, scoring Massey to cut the deficit to 2-1. Unfortunately, that would be the closest we'd get.
Phillies Pull Away with Big Homers
The Phillies took control in the 6th inning with J.T. Realmuto hitting a three-run homer, making it 5-1. Our bullpen struggled to contain them as they continued to pour it on. Realmuto homered again in the 8th, and by the end of the inning, the score had ballooned to 10-2.Royals Can't Mount a Comeback
Despite some promising moments, such as Hunter Renfroe walking and MJ Melendez getting a chance to hit, we couldn't mount a comeback. Although Massey added a double, the clutch hits were missing, and we left opportunities on the table.The Phillies added one more run in the top of the 9th, sealing the deal at 11-2.
Looking Ahead
It's always tough to swallow a loss like this, but we'll pick ourselves up and be back to fight another day. We saw some good plays tonight, and there's always room for hope and a fresh start in the next game.
