Tough Loss for the Phillies
The Phillies faced off against the Brewers today and unfortunately, fell short by a score of 2-1. Despite a solid effort, especially early on, we couldn't hold onto our lead. Let's break down what happened inning by inning.Early Lead Thanks to Bohm
In the 2nd inning, Alec Bohm came through with a solo shot to center field, giving us an early 1-0 lead!
Bryson Stott also added a single, but we couldn't capitalize further despite getting him into scoring position.Pitching Duel
For much of the game, our pitching staff managed to keep Milwaukee in check. Aaron Nola was especially effective, striking out multiple batters and working out of jams. The Brewers didn’t get on the scoreboard until the 5th inning thanks to a solo homer by Rhys Hoskins. This tied the game at 1-1.Missed Opportunities
Throughout the game, the Phillies had their chances. In the top of the 6th, Trea Turner singled, and Bryce Harper walked, putting runners on first and second with no outs. However, strikeouts by Nick Castellanos and a groundout by Stott ended the threat. Stranding runners in scoring positions hurt us again in the 8th inning. Kyle Schwarber singled, but we couldn't bring him around to score.Heartbreaking 9th Inning
The bottom of the 9th inning was a true nail-biter. Jackson Chourio led off with a triple, putting us in a tough spot. We intentionally walked William Contreras and faced a bases-loaded, one-out situation. After striking out Garrett Mitchell and giving free passes, Jake Bauers delivered the final blow with a single to right, scoring Chourio and sealing the game for Milwaukee.
Looking Ahead
Despite this loss, there were a lot of positives tonight. Alec Bohm continues to show why he's one of our best hitters, and Aaron Nola pitched his heart out. We need to brush this one off and focus on our next matchup. Go Phillies!
