A Tough Outing in Colorado 😢

Pirates fans, this one was rough. Facing off against the Colorado Rockies, we experienced a challenging night on the field which ended in a 4-16 defeat. Let's break it down.

Promising Start Quickly Fizzles Out

Initially, it looked like it might be a competitive game. Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings, with Andrew McCutchen and Bryan Reynolds striking out in the 1st inning, and Connor Joe and Ke'Bryan Hayes facing quick outs in the 2nd.

In the bottom of the 3rd, the Rockies took the lead with a solo homer by Goodman. Our moment of hope came in the top of the 4th when Nick Gonzales hit a solo homer to tie the game at 1-1.

Rockies Take Control 💪

Things began to unravel in the bottom of the 4th. Montero doubled and then came a series of plays from the Rockies that scored 3 runs, ending the inning at 4-1. We had our chances to bounce back; Michael A. Taylor tripled in the top of the 5th, but McCutchen flied out to end the inning.

By the middle of the 6th inning, the Rockies had extended their lead to 7-2. Despite Gonzales scoring again in the 7th, the game slipped further out of reach.

Late-Game Struggles 🔥

As we entered the 7th inning, our pitching began to falter. Grandal's throwing error allowed a stolen base and subsequent run. Goodman continued to have a night, belting another homer to push the score to 10-4 by the end of the 7th.

The real crusher came in the 8th inning. The Rockies unloaded with a series of doubles, walks, and a grand slam by Toglia, taking an overwhelming 16-4 lead.

Final Fight and Looking Ahead 🏳️

In the 9th inning, Jason Delay pinch-hit for McCutchen but couldn't spark a rally. While Reynolds managed to single, the inning ended with Gonzales lining out.

It's a tough loss, and it hurts to see our team beaten this way. But let's keep our heads up, Pirates fans. We'll learn from this and come back stronger. Let's keep the faith and continue to support our team through the highs and the lows. Go Bucs! 🏴‍☠️
