Cardinals Take Down Padres 4-1! 
What a fantastic night for the St. Louis Cardinals, who secured a 4-1 victory over the San Diego Padres! This game showcased incredible talent on both offense and defense, but ultimately, our Redbirds came out on top. Let's recap the highlights!
Quiet Early Innings
The game had a slow start, with both teams going scoreless through the first two innings. Alec Burleson showed some sparks early by singling and stealing second in the bottom of the 1st. However, our offense couldn't convert this into a run.
Breakthrough in the 3rd Inning
The bottom of the 3rd was when the Cardinals drew first blood. Alec Burleson walked and, thanks to a fielding error, advanced to third. Luken Baker then grounded out to short, allowing Burleson to score! Soon after, Paul Goldschmidt doubled to left, bringing home Nolan Arenado. We were up 2-0!
Padres Narrow the Gap
San Diego’s Jackson Merrill did manage a solo homer in the 5th inning, cutting our lead to 2-1. But, our pitching staff, led by an excellent bullpen, kept their bats mostly silent.
Masyn Winn's Dinger!
In the bottom of the 6th, Masyn Winn hit a solo home run (382 feet) to extend our lead to 3-1. This shot injected some much-needed energy into the game and into Busch Stadium!
Insurance Run in the 8th
Lars Nootbaar kicked off the 8th inning with a triple, and Ivan Herrera promptly singled to center, bringing Nootbaar home and pushing our lead to 4-1. That's the kind of clutch hitting we love to see!
Locking It Down
In the 9th inning, Ryan Helsley came in and did what he does best—shutting the door on the Padres. He quickly retired the side, sealing the victory for the Cardinals!
Final Thoughts
It was a great all-around effort from our boys tonight. Masyn Winn and Paul Goldschmidt were pivotal in our offensive efforts, while our pitching staff kept the Padres in check. Let's keep this momentum going, Cardinals fans! Go Redbirds!
