Tough Loss in a Pitchers' Duel

Hey Cubbies fans, tonight's game against the Cardinals was a tough one, ending in a 3-0 loss. Both teams were locked in a pitching duel for most of the game, but a few key moments tipped the scales in St. Louis' favor.

Early Innings: Quiet Bats

We started off the game with some promise. Mike Tauchman led off with a single in the bottom of the 1st, but unfortunately, we couldn’t capitalize as Christopher Morel, Cody Bellinger, and Seiya Suzuki couldn’t bring him home. Throughout the first few innings, both teams struggled to get anything going offensively. Kyle Hendricks relieved Jordan Wicks early and kept the game scoreless through the 4th.

Mid Game: Missing Opportunities

Our lineup faced similar struggles heading into the middle innings. We had some hits here and there, like Miguel Amaya's single in the 3rd and Nico Hoerner drawing a walk in the 2nd, but we couldn't string anything together. Despite solid defense and pitching, we just couldn't break through their pitching.

Late Game: Cardinals Take Control

The top of the 8th was where things started to unravel. Pedro Pagés hit a homer to left center off Hayden Wesneski, putting the Cardinals up 1-0. Then, in the top of the 9th, Nolan Arenado doubled, setting up Ivan Herrera and Dylan Carlson to drive in two more runs. We had a glimmer of hope in the bottom of the 9th. Seiya Suzuki walked and advanced to second, and Ian Happ walked, putting two runners on. Sadly, Nico Hoerner struck out swinging to end the game.

Summary

Final Score: Cubs 0, Cardinals 3 😞

While it’s frustrating to see the team struggle at the plate, there were some positives, especially our solid pitching and some good defensive plays. Let’s keep our heads up and look forward to the next game. Go Cubs! 💙⚾
