Tough Loss on the Road
The Cardinals faced off against the Reds and unfortunately, couldn't come out on top today, falling 6-1. The game started off promisingly enough, with our pitching striking out the first three Reds batters in the bottom of the 1st inning. It was an exciting start, and cards fans were hopeful for more.
️Early Opportunities Missed
Paul Goldschmidt gave us a glimmer of hope in the 2nd inning with a solid double, followed by Brendan Donovan getting hit by a pitch. The bases were loaded after Jordan Walker walked, but we couldn't capitalize as Pedro Pagés grounded into a double play. That was a momentum we needed to seize, but it just didn't work out.
Taking the Lead, Briefly
The top of the 3rd inning saw Willson Contreras and Tommy Pham rallying back-to-back, leading to Nolan Arenado's single which allowed Contreras to score. This gave us a brief 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, the Reds came back strong in the bottom of the same inning, with back-to-back homers from Spencer Steer and Elly De La Cruz.Mid-Game Struggles
Throughout the 4th and 5th innings, our boys struggled to regain footing. Scott II and Contreras had some close but ultimately unfruitful encounters at the plate. The Reds solidified their lead in the 5th inning with another monster homer from Spencer Steer, extending their advantage to 6-1.Couldn’t Close the Gap
The later innings didn’t see much action from our side. We struggled to get men on the bases, and hits were sparse. Our relief pitchers did their best to hold down the fort, but the early damage was too much to overcome.Final Thoughts
It’s always tough to see a game go this way, especially with such a promising start. However, let's keep our chins up and look forward to the next one. Tonight just wasn't our night. We'll back our boys no matter what, and there will be better games ahead. Let’s go Cardinals!
