Tough Loss in the Bronx

Well, Cardinals Nation, it was a tough one to swallow last night in the Bronx. Despite an early lead, our Cards fell to the Yankees, 6-3. Let's break down how the game went inning by inning.

Early Inning Action

The game started with our boys unable to get much going offensively. Masyn Winn, Alec Burleson, and Nolan Arenado all went down quickly in the top of the 1st inning. On the flip side, Matthew Liberatore kept the Yankees off the board in their half of the 1st as well.

The 2nd inning began promisingly with Paul Goldschmidt doubling to center and Lars Nootbaar reaching on an infield single, but we couldn't capitalize. The Yankees opened the scoring in their half of the inning with a sacrifice fly from Anthony Volpe, making it 1-0.

Making Some Noise in the Third

The Cards finally got on the board in the 3rd inning. After a two-out rally featuring singles from Burleson, Arenado, and Brendan Donovan, we got two runs across. Donovan singled to bring home Burleson, and Goldschmidt's single scored Arenado to put us up 2-1! 🥳 But the Yankees quickly responded, scoring three runs with a two-run homer by Austin Wells, putting them up 4-2.

Late Inning Struggles

The middle innings saw both teams' pitchers buckle down a bit. We had a glimmer of hope in the 8th when Arenado launched a homer to make it 4-3. However, the Yankees' Austin Wells continued his hot night, hitting another two-run homer in the bottom of the 8th to extend their lead to 6-3. Despite a fielding error by Volpe allowing Goldschmidt to reach in the 9th, the Yankees closed the door on us.

Looking Forward

There's no way around it, this was a tough loss, Cardinals fans. But there were some bright spots, like Goldschmidt continuing to rake and Arenado providing some power. We've got a resilient squad, and we're confident they'll bounce back in no time. Keep your heads up, and let's get ready for the next one! ❤️⚾
