Heartbreaker in Extra Innings

Cardinals fans, tonight's game was a nail-biter until the very end. We headed to Toronto with strong hopes and started off on the right foot but fell just short in extra innings. Let's recap the action, inning by inning.

Hot Start for the Cardinals

In the top of the 1st inning, Masyn Winn got us started with a single to right. Alec Burleson and Paul Goldschmidt followed suit, loading the bases. Nolan Arenado came through with a single to center, scoring Winn and giving us an early lead. Thomas Saggese added another run, bringing home Burleson with a fielder's choice. By the end of the first, we were up 2-0. What a way to start! 💪

Pitching Dominance Early On

Our pitchers held strong through the 2nd and 3rd innings, maintaining the 2-0 lead. Ernie Clement was solid at third base, and Alec Burleson showed some great defensive plays. It was looking good for us as we kept the Blue Jays off the scoreboard through three innings.

A Rocky 4th Inning

The bottom of the 4th inning was tough. Despite our early lead, the Jays came back with a vengeance. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. doubled in a run, followed by a sac fly from Spencer Horwitz, and a single from Alejandro Kirk put the Jays ahead 3-2. Our defense struggled to hold the line, but there was still plenty of baseball left.

Back and Forth Battle

The middle innings saw both teams fighting to gain control. Lars Nootbaar and Pedro Pages delivered hits, but we couldn't push any runs across in the 5th and 6th. Matthew Liberatore did a great job in relief, keeping the game within reach.

Saggese Goes Yard!

In the top of the 8th inning, Thomas Saggese delivered a clutch homer to left field, tying the game at 3-3! The energy shifted back in our favor as we headed into the final innings. The bullpen, led by Genesis Cabrera, held strong to keep it tied.

Extra Inning Drama

We entered the 10th inning tied at 3-3, and both teams had chances. Jose Fermin and Jordan Walker made defensive shifts, but we couldn't capitalize on our bases-loaded situation in the 11th. Freddy Pacheco held the Jays in check, taking it to the final inning.

Tough Loss in the 11th

In the bottom of the 11th, the Blue Jays got the bases loaded with one out. Despite an intentional walk and some solid pitching, Alejandro Kirk singled to left, bringing home the winning run for a 4-3 Blue Jays victory. It was a tough end to a hard-fought game.

Onward and Upward

Despite the loss, there were many positives to take away. Our lineup showed resilience, and our bullpen proved capable in high-pressure situations. Thomas Saggese was a standout with his game-tying homer. We'll regroup and come back stronger next game. 👊

That's the beauty of baseball – always another game ahead. Go Cards! 🚀
