Tough Loss for the Orioles at Home
Well, fellow Orioles fans, tonight wasn't our night
. We faced the Washington Nationals at home and unfortunately fell 9-3. Let's break down what happened.Rough Start for the Orioles
The Nationals jumped out to an early lead in the top of the 1st inning. After CJ Abrams doubled and Juan Yepez walked, James Wood singled to left field, allowing Abrams to score and Yepez to advance to third base. Yepez then scored on a pickoff attempt gone wrong, making it 2-0 before we had even had our first at-bat.Attempted Comeback in the 2nd and 3rd
Bottom of the 2nd, we had a glimmer of hope! Ryan O'Hearn started us off with a single to right, and Adley Rutschman followed suit with another single, pushing O'Hearn to third. Ryan Mountcastle then hit a single, scoring O'Hearn. But, sadly, we couldn't capitalize further, leaving Rutschman stranded at third.In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Anthony Santander brought us some excitement with a homer to center, tying the game at 2-2.
But our bats fell silent after that.Nationals Pull Away
The Nationals regained and extended their lead in the 4th and 6th innings. Sacrifice flies from Ildemaro Vargas and Luis Garcia Jr. in the 4th inning made it 4-2. By the time they were done in the 6th, they'd stretched that lead to 7-2, with key hits from Vargas and Jacob Young.We had no answer in the bottom of the 6th through 8th innings, with the Nationals adding only one more in the top of the 9th to make it 9-2.
A Late Effort in the 9th
In the bottom of the 9th, Cedric Mullins and Jackson Holliday gave us a brief glimmer of hope with back-to-back singles. Mullins scored on an error, and it felt like maybe, just maybe, we could pull off some 9th-inning magic. But after Santander walked, Gunnar Henderson grounded out to end the game. Final score 9-3 in favor of the Nationals.Final Thoughts
Tough night for our Orioles, but we'll bounce back! Big shoutout to Santander for that solo shot. Let's hope we can regroup and come out strong for the next one! Go O's!
