Heartbreak in Chicago: Nationals Fall to Cubs 7-6
Hey Nats fans,
it was a nail-biter last night at Wrigley Field, but unfortunately, we came up just short.Top of the First Inning: Fast Start
Our boys drew first blood in the top of the 1st inning. CJ Abrams got things going with a single to center and then stole second and third. Andres Chaparro then drove Abrams home with a single to right field, giving us an early 1-0 lead. Though James Wood and Jose Tena got on base, we couldn't add any more runs.Bottom of the First Inning: Cubs Respond
The Cubs quickly answered back in the bottom of the 1st. After a few singles, Dansby Swanson scored on a single by Cody Bellinger, tying the game at 1-1. We managed to get out of the inning without further damage, but the Cubs' offense showed early signs of life.Nationals' Strong Third Inning
CJ Abrams once again showcased his base-running skills with a double to center. James Wood drove him in with a double of his own, and another single from Jose Tena brought Wood home to give us a 3-1 lead. The offense was firing on all cylinders.Bottom of the Third: Suzuki's Big Hit
The Cubs closed the gap in their half of the 3rd when Seiya Suzuki crushed a two-run homer to tie the game at 3-3. Patrick Corbin managed to settle down afterward, but it was clear we were in for a hard-fought battle.Gallo's Heroics in the Sixth
The 6th inning was where we shined the brightest. Joey Gallo stepped up to the plate and smashed a 3-run homer, driving in Yepez and Baker, flipping the score to 6-5 in our favor. The dugout was electric, and it felt like we had the momentum.Cubs' 7th Inning Surge
Unfortunately, our lead didn't hold. The Cubs answered back in the bottom of the 7th. After some singles and a ground out, Cody Bellinger and Isaac Paredes drove in key runs to turn the game back in their favor, taking a 7-6 lead.Final Push Falls Short
In the 9th, CJ Abrams doubled with two outs, and James Wood walked to give us hope. But Andres Chaparro flied out to left field, ending our rally and sealing the 7-6 loss.Despite the tough loss, there were plenty of positives to take away from this game. CJ Abrams was a beast on the base paths, and Joey Gallo's homer really energized the team. On to the next one, Nats fans! Let's keep the faith!
