Dominant Pitching and Late-Inning Heroics Lead Reds Over Cubs! 🎉

Hey Reds fans! What a game today as we blanked the Cubs 3-0 in an extra-inning nail-biter. Let's dive into the key moments that led us to this fantastic victory!

Early Innings – Pitching Duel

The first few innings saw both pitchers dominating the mound. Our own Buck Farmer set the tone with a quick 1-2-3 inning to start the game. There wasn’t much offense from either side through the first three innings, and you could feel the tension building at Wrigley.

Elly De La Cruz continued to be aggressive on the base paths with a stolen base in the 1st, while Jake Fraley provided our first hit in the 2nd inning. However, neither side was able to push any runs across.

The Middle Innings – Pitchers Stay Strong

The middle innings weren’t much different as the pitchers maintained their dominance. We saw both Christian Bethancourt and Kevin Alcántara being retired in key situations, stopping the Cubs from gaining any momentum. Kudos to our bullpen, with Cruz and Suter coming in to keep the shutout alive.

The 4th inning had a bit of drama as Tyler Stephenson was thrown out at home, but our defense and pitching remained firm as ever, keeping those dangerous Cubs hitters at bay.

Late Innings – Tension Mounts but Defense Holds

Moving to the 7th and 8th innings, Jake Fraley kept swinging a hot bat, notching another single. Yet, we still couldn’t get around to score. The Cubs threatened with runners in scoring positions, especially when Nico Hoerner reached second in the 8th, but Ian Gibaut didn’t let them cash in.

The regular nine innings ended without a run for either side, setting up a dramatic finish in extras!

Extra-Inning Magic! 🌟

In the 10th inning, everything changed! Elly De La Cruz continued his heroics with a clutch double to right field, scoring Blake Dunn and Jonathan India. Tyler Stephenson then stepped up, delivering a single to center that brought home De La Cruz for the final nail in the Cubs’ coffin.

Our defense stayed tight, and Buck Farmer came in to close out the Cubs with no runs in the bottom of the 10th. Shoutout to Reiver Sanmartin for maintaining the calm and executing beautifully.

Final Score: Reds 3, Cubs 0. It was a well-fought game with excellent pitching and timely hitting. Let's continue this momentum and keep the wins coming, Reds fans! 😁🍾⚾
