A Tough Day on the Diamond

The game started on a hopeful note for us Nationals fans as our boys headed to Citi Field, eager to take on the Mets. The opening inning, unfortunately, set the tone for a day that would test our resilience. James Wood, CJ Abrams, and Josh Bell all fell victim to the Mets' pitching, leaving the scoreboard unchanged. Meanwhile, the Mets capitalized on a fielding error by Dylan Crews, allowing them to snag an early 1-0 lead.

Chasing the Lead

Our lineup finally sparked to life in the third inning! Paul DeJong, who walked, set the stage for Jorge Alfaro's hustle, reaching base on a throwing error that brought DeJong home to even the score. A string of impressive hits followed—CJ Abrams doubled, and Josh Bell added another double, with Daylen Lile bringing Bell home on a sizzling triple! We were on top 4-1! 🎉 Unfortunately, the Mets came back in the bottom of the fourth with a sequence of errors that brought them ahead 8-4, highlighted by Juan Soto hitting a devastating 419-foot homer.

The Final Push

The fifth inning offered a glimmer of hope as Abrams sent a ball 426 feet for a glorious homer, driving in Jacob Young and closing the gap to 8-6. Our bullpen struggled to contain the Mets' offense, who tacked on runs relentlessly. In a bittersweet moment in the 9th, Robert Hassell III came through with a late-inning double, but the Mets' pitching stood firm. As much as our boys battled, the game slipped away, ending in a 12-6 loss.

Chins up, Nationals fans! We saw some promising flashes of brilliance from our players, and even though today wasn't our day, there's always the next game. Let's keep believing! ⚾❤️
